I have waited so long for this! Tonight, I carefully followed the instructions and infected myself with a small colony of hookworms. I heard about this for the first time in 2008. I was at work, listening to a podcast while I counted the draw at the end of the night. Since that night six years ago, I've dreamed about procuring a batch of them for myself. I've read as much as I possibly could, talked in person and online to people with more information, and discussed the possibility with my close family members and best friends.
There were two main barriers to actually getting the worms for me. The first is that the FDA has cracked down on this method of treatment in the United States. The second was the cost. To find someone who would sell them to a person in the states would be costly. For a couple of years after I made up my mind, I completely despaired about the price.
Then a few months ago, I found a group of people interested in helminth therapy, and I learned so much from them. I took the plunge, and today I got my worms.
After dinner tonight, my family gathered around the dining room table to help and witness this major step toward health. We went through all of the steps together, and I'm sitting here now with a bandage on my arm. I feel the itch starting already, which means the hookworms are working their way into my body.
